Some Facts about Neptune


Neptune's blue color comes from absorption of red light by methane in the atmosphere.

Neptune has a rapid winds like the other gas planets. It is the fastest in the solar system Reaching 2,000 km/hour

It has a great dark spot, about a half size of Jupiter's. It has also a smaller dark spot in the southern hemisphere and a small irregular white cloud that zips around Neptune every 16 hour, known as 'The Scooter'.
However the spot was in 1994 dissapear and a few moths later, a new dark spot was discovered in northern hemisphere.

Neptune has rings, that very dark. Their composition is unknown.

Neptune's magnetic field is oddly orientiered, just like Uranus.

Like Saturn and Jupiter, it has its own internal heat source.

Because Pluto's orbit is so eccentris, sometimes it crosses the orbit of Neptune. Since 1979 Neptune has actually been the farthest planet from the sun. Pluto will again be the farthest planet in 1999.
